      AWENDAW, S.C. (WCIV) -- There's almost four feet of water building up on the side of US 17 and officials say if the rain continues, they may have to shut the whole road.

      Officers have closed the right lane of US 17 in Awendaw just past the Sewee Outpost.{}

      Charleston County Captain Jim Wood said officers have been directing traffic and asking people to slow down since 2 p.m. Wednesday and will continue to do so as long as there is a hazard.

      Water on right hand side of the road is three to four feet deep.

      Capt. Wood said if drivers don't slow down and hydroplane in that water, they will go off the side of the road and straight into trees.

      Guerins Bridge Road between Drew Lane and Willow Creek is still closed.{}

      According to Captain Wood, if it continues to rain and the flooding gets worse, they will have to shut down US 17.
