Operation Move Out gets underway in Charleston

      File (WCIV)
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The campaign that targets people who are leaving or entering apartments is about the begin in Charleston.

Operation Move Out centers on the large number of students and others who are moving out of or into apartments on Aug. 1. In the past, people moving resulted in big piles of trash along the city's streets.

Beginning Wednesday, city code enforcement officers will begin patrolling neighborhoods to make note of where items are being piled up. Then on Saturday, sanitation crews will make runs through the city. Tenants can also leave items on the curb on Sunday for regular Monday trash pickup.

As part of the effort, the community relations office at the College of Charleston donates $2,000 to help pay for additional sanitation crews.
