Orangeburg deputies find liquor still in Holly Hill

HOLLY HILL, S.C. (WCIV) -- Orangeburg County deputies found and destroyed a liquor still in Holly Hill last week.

According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, deputies were investigating a marijuana grow operation with the help of the State Law Enforcement Division helicopter when they spotted a still.

Ravenell said the property owner did not own the still, but a storage unit in her back yard was used for a social club where she sold food and beer.

She later recanted, telling deputies that the club was private and everyone put in money to buy the food and alcohol when they met.

At the still site, deputies found 25 55-gallon barrels of corn mash and two two 5-gallon barrels of moonshine.

Deputies have not made any arrests in the case.
