Painter falls to death in Oconee County

SALEM, S.C. (AP) - Oconee County officials say a painter fell to his death at a construction site in Salem.

Coroner Karl Addis said 56-year-old Jerry Wayne Kelly of Central fell from a ladder on top of a scaffold around 1:30 p.m. Monday. Addis says Kelley then fell down a stairwell to the main floor of the two-story home.

Kelly was a self-employed painter and was working as a subcontractor at a home in Salem.

Addis says Kelly fell about 23 feet.

An autopsy was planned Tuesday.
