Palmetto Health: Program gets safe milk for NICU
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Organizers say a new partnership will help make sure that newborn babies being treated in intensive care units at some South Carolina hospitals will have a safe, steady supply of breast milk.
On Monday, officials with Palmetto Health are announcing the formation of the Palmetto Health Donor Milk Program. Hospital officials say they are partnering with Prolacta Bioscience, Inc., which will manage screenings, testing and the collection of donated milk.
Officials say Prolacta will also pasteurize the milk for use in neonatal intensive care units at Palmetto Health Baptist and Palmetto Health Richland.
