Patriots Point hosts 'open cockpit' day this weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum is hosting its first Open Cockpit Sunday of the year this weekend.{}

According to the museum, guests will be able to explore the cockpits of some of the museum's aircraft,{}including the SBD Dauntless, F-9 Cougar, H-1 Huey, S-3 Viking, H-3 Sea King, F-18 Hornet and the A-6 Intruder.{}

Volunteers and staff members will be on hand to answer questions about the aircraft.{}

"Open Cockpit Sunday has been successful in aiding ourefforts to educate the public about our rich military history," said ExecutiveDirector Mac Burdette.{} "It's part of ourmission; but it's also a great opportunity for our visitors - children andadults alike - to experience Patriots Point in a whole new way and to walk inthe steps of heroes."{}

Normal museum rates apply, museum officials said.{}

The Open Cockpit day is being held on Jan. 12 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
