Patriots Point hosts 'open cockpit' day this weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.c. (WCIV) -- Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum is hosting its first Open Cockpit Sunday of the year this weekend.{}

According to the museum, guests will be able to explore the cockpits of some of the museum's aircraft,{}includingthe SBD Dauntless, F-9 Cougar, H-1 Huey, S-3 Viking, H-3 Sea King, F-18 Hornetand the A-6 Intruder.{}

Volunteers and staff members will be on hand to answer questions about the aircraft.{}

"Open Cockpit Sunday isone way we're working to educate the public about our rich military history,"said Executive Director Mac Burdette.{}"It's part of our mission; but it's also a great opportunity for ourvisitors - children and adults alike - to experience Patriots Point in a wholenew way and to walk in the steps of heroes."{}{}

Normal museum rates apply, museum officials said.{}

The Open Cockpit day is being held on Jan. 20 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This will be the fifth Open Cockpit day the museum has hosted since starting the program in 2011.
