Patriots Point invites WWII vets to attend Spirit of '45 Day

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - Patriots Point is inviting World War II veterans and their families to attend a special Spirit of '45 tour on Tuesday.

The veterans and their families will get free admission July 29. The bus is expected to arrive around 2 p.m.

The Spirit of '45 Express is part of a national campaign to raise awareness for the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.

In 2010, Congress agreed to create the Spirit of '45 Day to honor the achievements of the "greatest generation." Three years later, Gov. Nikki Haley declared Aug. 11 to be the Spirit of '45 Day in South Carolina.

Since February 2014, the Spirit of '45 bus has traveled more than 25,000 miles, stopping at World War II memorials and museums in 37 states.
