Patriots Point joins N.Charleston as Regional Site for Veterans Day

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- There are only two official Veterans Day Regional Sites in the entire state. North Charleston has earned the honor three years in a row and this year, Patriots Point has joined them.

The Veterans Day National Committee of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs named Patriots Point a Regional Site for the celebration of Veterans Day 2013.

Part of being a Regional Site means that the Dept. of Veterans Affairs provides support for the museum's activities that day, and helps to promote the event to veterans and their families.

"We spend every day here at Patriots Point honoring the veterans who fought so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today," Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette said.{} "It's quite fitting for us to be the go-to for Veterans Day and we appreciate Veterans Affairs recognizing that.{} The day is planned with educational, entertaining, inspirational and humbling events.{} We've got something for every age to enjoy."

Patriots Point will be holding their Veterans Day celebration Monday November 11 starting at 9:30 a.m. with a symposium in the Stoney Stover Theater on the Hanger Deck of the USS Yorktown.

At 11 a.m. the U.S. Naval Academy Women's Glee Club will perform a selection of classical, sacred, folk, patriotic, popular, and Broadway music.

Five Patriots Point volunteers, all of whom served in WWII will also be honored.

Admission for all veterans is free.
