People Against Rape prepares for 40th anniversary

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- The nonprofit organization People Against Rape will be featured Wednesday in the Volunteer 4 Phonebank. The group has been helping victims of sexual violence and abuse for nearly 40 years. {}

PAR was created in 1974 to serve the tri-county community. They are available 24 hours a day and can help with a wide range of services. Their support system has been crucial in helping many people recover from sexual attacks. {}On Wednesday, representatives from PAR will be promoting their Take Back the Night event that's scheduled for April 17 at Marion Square. {}Dr. Dean Kilpatrick will be the keynote speaker. Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and police Chief Greg Mullen will also be attending. {}The event will celebrate the PAR's 40th anniversary. {}If you would like more information about PAR or the Take Back the Night event call into the Phonebank between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The number is 881-5837.
