ISLE OF PALMS, S.C (WCIV) -- Seven sea turtles were released back into the ocean Sunday, thanks to the South Carolina Aquarium's Sea Turtle Rescue Program.

Hundreds of people gathered on the Isle of Palms to witness the turtle release up close.

The turtles were{}brought to Charleston to be rehabilitated, after suffering from hypothermia up in Cape Cod last Fall.

Sea Turtle Rescue Program Manager, Kelly Thorvalson says just five months ago, the turtles were literally{}at death's door.

"All sea turtle populations are endangered or threatened with extinction," said Thorvalson. "It really is our duty to help them the reason they are endangered is because of human causes."

Thorvalson recommends that anyone interested in sea turtles take a tour of the Aquarium's Sea Turtle Hospital.
