People ride jetpacks over ocean at Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Local governments along the Grand Strand are trying to figure out how to regulate the beach's newest attraction - jetpacks that let people fly above the ocean.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that the packs use a high powered stream of up to 1,000 gallons of ocean water a minute to let users hover. People can go as high as 30 feet, although most riders end up just a few feet above the waves.

Myrtle Beach City Council will discuss the new ride Tuesday. The city manager approved it, saying he interprets city law as allowing a number of water sports activities.

The jetpack ride costs $99 for 30 minutes, though the price will go up to $169 during the summer.
