Pinewood Prep being sued by believed ReVille victim
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A local law firm filed a civil suit on Monday against Pinewood Preparatory School and former headmaster Glyn Cowlishaw.
The filing comes after Motley Rice LLC announced a civil case on Friday in which a believed victim of former educator and coach Louis "Skip" ReVille was taking action.
Attorneys with Motley Rice say their client is one of around 30 "identified victims" in the evolving sexual assault and molestation case against ReVille. They say their client was a student at Pinewood Prep and abused by ReVille from 2004 until 2006 when ReVille's employment with the school was ended.
The suit alleges the school and Cowlishaw breached their duty of care and committed gross negligence in the hiring, supervision and retention of ReVille as a teacher and coach. The filing also claims civil conspiracy.
"In our opinion, silence among the adults at Pinewood Prep about ReVille's behavior allowed him to continue to operate unchecked in our community," said Motley Rice attorney Laura Khare. "Our goal is to help our client begin to heal and prevent similar tragedies. We believe there is additional information about ReVille's actions in the community and encourage anyone with more information to come forward."
ReVille was taken into custody on Friday, October 28. Investigators with the Mount Pleasant Police Department said he confessed to several counts of criminal sexual conduct involving minors. His arrest was part of an investigation prompted by information provided by the Dee Norton Children's Center. Since his arrest, ReVille has confessed to several additional counts of criminal sexual conduct with minors as well as other charges related to sexual activity.
