Plans for I-26 construction if Hurricane Irene hits Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation's contractors will stop work operations on Interstate 26 if Hurricane Irene comes near Charleston.

Project Spokesman Earl Capps says workers will secure any company property, such as barrels, equipment and inventory, which might be hazardous to traffic or nearby neighborhoods and businesses.

Work on the I-26 project would be suspended until after the hurricane passes and local traffic conditions return to normal.
