Plenty of Lowcountry ties on Clemson team

MIAMI (WCIV) -- The Clemson Tigers worked out again Tuesday in Miami in preparation of their bowl game with Ohio State.

There are plenty of Lowcountry ties on the staff, too, including James Island grad Tony Elliott, the running backs coach, and the offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell, who used to coach at Hanahan.

And then there's a guy most don't see on the front lines, but he's graduate assistant Dustin Fry. The Summerville High graduate had a standout career for the Clemson Tigers, got drafted, and was on the rosters for several NFL teams, but never really broke through.

When football playing came to an end last year, he called Dabo Swinney a call.

Now he's looking to follow in Swinney's footsteps.

"I wanted to stick in the NFL, but it didn't happen. I tried it out, but I missed football. I called and coach Swinney took me back," said Fry.

Since then, he's been on the sidelines with the Tigers.
