Teen arrested in Lee Street shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man was wounded in a shooting in downtown Charleston shortly after noon on Tuesday, police confirmed.{}

According to the Charleston Police Department, the man was shot in "the facial area" on Lee Street about 12:15 p.m. The victim was taken to Medical University hospital, but police did not have any information on the victim's condition.

Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Tyrek Delray Varns.

A police spokesman said Antuane J. Means, 18, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Investigators are still looking for a second suspect.

A spokesman for the Charleston County School District said Sanders-Clyde Elementary School on Morrison Drive was placed on administrative lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Police said the suspect is described as a black male wearing a yellow construction vest and a red 59/fifty ball cap with black trim.

They are also looking for another man that was seen with the suspected shooter on Jackson St. near Sanders Clyde.

A photo of the two has been released. Both are described as tall and slender.
