Murder suspect out on bond arrested for 3 new crimes
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Summerville police have arrested a man suspected of three different crimes in the Summerville area, and this isn't the first time he's been in trouble with the law.Anthony Willis, 18, has been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime and possession of a sawed off shotgun.
Back in May of 2011 Willis was charged with the murder of 18-year-old Justin Smoot.
Willie Bailey says his grandson, Justin, was gunned down on Muir Court after accusing Willis of breaking into his mother's Summerville home. The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office said Willis answered Smoot by shooting him multiple times in the back and neck.
According to Dorchester County court records, Willis bonded out of jail.Now, he is suspected of a robbery at Meme's Soul Food Kitchen restaurant on January 28, 2012.Investigators say employees were cleaning when they heard someone come in the back door of the restaurant. One of the witnesses says she saw a young black male wearing all camouflage clothing, black gloves and a black ski mask. She said he was carrying what appeared to be a modified shotgun. Witnesses say the man demanded money and when employees didn't comply, he grabbed a nearby purse and ran back out of the business.Willis is also being charged with burglary in the first degree after an incident at a home in Gadsden Acres on January 12, 2012. In that incident, the victim came home to find his rear sliding glass door open. Several drawers were left open, and a bedroom door usually left open was closed. Missing items included a set of knives, a shotgun, a rifle and ammunition.Willis has also been charged with two counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime for a carjacking on March 1 near the Main Street Pizza Hut.Investigators say as an employee and her boyfriend were getting into her car, they were approached by a black male wearing camouflage clothing, a black ski mask and toting a shotgun. She told police the man shoved the gun in her face and told her to get out of the car. She said he then stole her boyfriend's cell phone. As they ran, she said the suspect got into their car and drove away.
Willis is being held without bond.
