Police: Bluffton teen told teacher he had weapons

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - Police say no one has been hurt after a 17-year-old Bluffton High School student came to school and told a teacher he had weapons.

Authorities locked down the school, put a police officer at the entrance and called in state agents and the fire department to help search the school and students Wednesday morning.

Bluffton Police Chief Joey Reynolds said the student is in custody, but did not release his name or whether he had been charged. It also was not clear if the student had any weapons.

Reynolds says the shutdown of the school was a necessary precaution to insure students and teachers were safe.
