Police find North Charleston man's car hit in shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man told police his car had been hit by bullets in North Charleston after officers received a call that shots had been fired in the area.{}

According to police, the shots fired call came from Ozark Street, but when officers arrived they did not find any victims or any signs of a shooting.

However, 25 minutes later officers were sent to I-526 near the Interstate 26 interchange to meet a man who said his car had been hit by bullets on Ozark Street.{}

Police said the man told them he met a woman in West Ashley. She drove them to Ozark Street, got out of the car and walked around the back of an apartment building there. The man told officers he felt like something was wrong, so he slid into the driver's seat as a black man wearing a mask walked up behind the car.{}

The man told police he put the car in reverse because he was scared and tried to drive away. That's when the man began firing at his car. The care was hit several times, but the victim was not injured, police said.{}

Police say the man hit one of the buildings with his car as he tried to drive away.

Police did not release any other details about the suspect.{}

This is the seventh shooting of 2014 in North Charleston.{}
