      Police: Man shot own foot, charged with gun possession

      NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- North Charleston police say a man with a gunshot wound to his foot shot himself Monday night.

      North Charleston police spent part of Monday evening trying to figure out how a man was shot in North Charleston Monday evening. According to police, the victim said he was shot by an unknown man. He was hit between the toes, police said.{}

      However, police say witnesses have told them that they saw the victim playing with a gun when it fired. The man later admitted to officers that he shot himself.{}

      He was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun.

      The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

      Police say the incident happened neat Comstock Avenue and Davis Street.{}
