Police make arrest in West Ashley attempted robbery, assault

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A North Charleston man was arrested and charged in an attempted armed robbery and assault in West Ashley that happened Oct. 15.

According to police, 20-year-old Shakiem Maxwell was charges with attempted armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, and possession pf a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Police say the crime happened around 9 p.m. Oct. 15 when the victim was approached by a man with a handgun. The suspect demanded money, and the victim was shot in the leg when he did not give up his money, police said.

The victim was treated at a nearby hospital.

Maxwell is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center. Bond has not been set.
