Police: Mt. Pleasant man hit teen girl with piece of wood
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Mount Pleasant man was arrested Wednesday after police say he hit a teen girl with a piece of wood.
According to Mount Pleasant police, 43-year-old Thomas Evans was charged with ill treatment of a child.
The investigation began at Wando High School when a guidance counselor called police Monday to report the alleged assault after the student reported the crime, the police report states.
The report states that the teen returned home from a movie around 7 p.m. and found Evans slurring his speech, as though he was drunk or on drugs. The teen said Evans was yelling at her.
According to the report, the student tried to leave the house, but Evans kept pushing a button to close the garage door, which kept her from leaving. Evans then hit the girl with a large piece of wood, states the report.
The hit left a bruise on the student's lower back, the report states.
The student was able to escape and spent the night with a friend. Officials called in the Department of Social Services to investigate the incident.
Until a bond hearing is scheduled, Evans is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
