NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police responded to the Jo Jo Jo Quick Stop on Rivers Avenue Wednesday morning for reports of a stabbing.

According to Deputy Chief Scott Deckard with the North Charleston Police, officers found the victim with a stab wound to the abdomen.

Don Lundy with Charleston County EMS said one patient was transported to the trauma center at MUSC in serious condition with "possible stab wounds."

Deckard said they believe the suspect waited for the victim and stabbed him as he entered the rear parking lot at JoJo's. The victim told officers he did not know his assailant.

"It{}makes me really, really angry," said a man who did not want to be identified but says he was working on construction on the roof of the building when the crime happened. "People out here stabbing older folks. Aint no need for that. That's somebody's grandfather, somebody's dad. Why would you even go that far?"

According to our crew on the scene, onlookers said the victim was a 60-year-old man. Officials later confirmed the man was 75 years old.

The construction worker says he saw the suspect pacing in front of the store just moments before the stabbing.{}

"I heard somebody yelling so I turned around and I seen a man running across the parking lot and an old man bent over said he was stabbed and I called the cops for him."

Lorenzo Ganknins said he saw the victim being put into an ambulance and also saw surveillance video from the store. {}

"It{}just showed that a guy was talking to another guy and he got stabbed," said Ganknins. "The older guy ran to the guys who were working on the side of the building holding his stomach and it showed the other guy running off."

Police described the suspect as a well-built black but fair skinned man, 6 feet tall with dreadlocks. Police also say he is between 35 and 40 years of age, weighs about 210 pounds and wore his dreadlocks tied back into a ponytail. He was wearing a gray shirt with khaki pants.
