Right place, right time: Police foil armed robbery attempt

CHARLESTON, S.C.(WCIV) -- Two Charlestonpolice officers were patrolling the ArdmoreNeighborhood in West Ashley Monday, when they saw a robbery unfold right in front of them.

The officers were driving up to the intersection of Sequoia and Balsam Streets around 10:15 p.m. when they saw a man standing in the middle ofSequoia Street.

The next thing they saw, according to police, was two men running up to that man as he backed up with his hands in the air. Officers said they saw one of the running men had a gun so they turned on their lights and rolled up.

Police said the suspects took off running in different directions but one of them was caught crouching next to a house on Balsam St.

The suspect, 21-year-old Terry Jamar Simmons Jr. is charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.{}

Police have identified the second suspect as 25-year-old Bobby EugeneWarthaw of Dowling Roadin North Charleston.Warthaw is wanted for attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearmduring the commission of a violent crime.
