Red Cross: Blood donations needed once the storm clears

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- American Red Cross officials canceled several blood drives that were scheduled for Wednesday and will be opening late on Thursday.

Because of an ice storm that came through the Lowcountry Tuesday night, blood drives and blood donation centers are closed.

"These most recent blood drive cancellations come after more than 300 blood drives in 25 states were forced to cancel due to winter weather earlier this month," said Communications Program Manager Jamie Muldrow. "When it's considered safe to travel, eligible donors of all blood types are urged to make an appointment to give."

There are eight blood drives scheduled in the Charleston area on January 30 and 31. Click here to see where you can donate on those dates.
