Red Cross featured in the Volunteer 4 Phonebank

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of the Red Cross will be in the Volunteer Four Phonebank Wednesday night on ABCNews4 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. {}

The nonprofit will be promoting Thursday's blood drives at both the Citadel and Northwoods malls. Volunteers who donate between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. will be given two tickets to a Charleston Riverdogs baseball game, a box of Girl Scout cookies and a Red Cross hat. {}The Red Cross is in dire need of blood, officials said. "The summer months are typically the hardest time for us to collect blood," said Barbie Schreiner. "A lot of families are going on vacation and they're very busy. The unfortunate scenario is that the need for blood never goes on vacation so there's an increased need over the summer."Volunteers will be fielding phone calls during both the 6 and 7 p.m. shows from anyone who would like to help out Thursday. {}The phonebank number is 881-5837, if you can't get to the phone during the ABC News 4 phonebank you can still call, you'll just have to dial different numbers. Those numbers are: Dial 2-1-1 or (843) 744-HELP or 1-800-922-2283. {}For a link to the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of the Red Cross click here.{}
