NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) - Friday marked the end of Red Ribbon Week across the country, and students at Fort Dorchester Elementary School marked a week full of events in a big way.

Throughout the week, the students learned about drugs and the negative effects they have on a person's life . They all wrote messages about why they were committed to living a drug-free life, put those messages in balloons and released them at a rally Friday.

"It is so important to make our children aware of drugs and what they can do to your body, and how harmful they can be,' Guidance Counselor Denise Depenbrock said.

The messages inside the balloons included the address for the school. Teachers and students hope the people who find those balloons will respond with their commitments to be drug-free.
