MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- And they're off. On Thursday, registration officially opened for the 2013 Cooper River Bridge Run on April 6.

For the 2013 race, only 40,000 people can participate. Of those, 38,500 will be regular entries and 1,500 will be charity bibs, which cost $150.

From now until December 15, 2012, registration will cost $30. Participants must register by January 15 to have their race packet mailed.

Registration for the 2013 race will take place at the North Charleston Coliseum.{} This is just one of many changes expected, following a delayed start and multiple concerns after the 2012 race.{} Race organizers later issued an apology.

The 2013 Taste of the Bridge Run will be held in three locations: Maritime Center, HarborSide East and the North Charleston Coliseum.{} The event will be held the night before the race. The fundraiser offers participants plenty of carb-friendly options to fuel up before the race, while enjoying food prepared by some of the Lowcountry's finest chefs.
