NORTH CHARESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- People who use the rail crossing on Remount Road will be forced to find an alternate route starting early Friday morning.
The Remount Road rail crossing will be closed to traffic starting around 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. Friday for rail repairs. The track will be closed until sometime Monday.
A contractor for CSX said crews will replace a panel of the track and the rail ties underneath and then repave the roadway. The crossing is expected to reopen Monday evening.
Detour signs will be posted and message board will alert drivers to the traffic changes.
This project will mostly affect people coming from North Rhett who want to make a left turn. They will be forced to take I-526 and loop around the area.
People who work on the Naval Weapons Station will also be detoured to Virginia Avenue and then to 526.
