Report: Craig's List deal turns into assault, attempted robbery

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A North Charleston man was arrested Tuesday for an assault and attempted armed robbery that happened on James Island last month.

According to Charleston police, 23-year-old Charles Levonne Seabrook II was charged with attempted strong armed robbery and second-degree assault and battery.

Police say the victim posted a dirt bike for wale on Craig's List for $1,200 and was contacted by a man who said he did not want to buy that bike, but wanted to buy another one.

The two men agreed to meet at a Bresee Street home to make the sale. After the deal was complete, police said, the buyer punched the victim in the face and tried to rob the man. However, a witness prevented the buyer from taking the money that had been paid for the dirt bike, the report states.

The victim was able to identify Seabrook as the buyer and attacker. Seabrook is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

      The investigation is ongoing.
