BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor was arrested Friday, said officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
According to a police report, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force learned Nathaniel Hampleton, 33, left Walterboro and was staying in the Beaufort area.
Marshals and Beaufort County sheriff's deputies arrested Hampleton at an apartment on Ambrose Street at about 9 a.m., according to the report.
According to a 2013 police report, Hampleton sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl. Hampleton was 31 at the time of the assault, said police.
According to a court affidavit, the girl told police she got off the bus at the wrong stop, met Hampleton and got into his car.
The victim said she met Hampleton on Facebook and the two began chatting on the social media website. According to court documents, she then gave Hampleton her cell phone number so he could text message her.
The girl told police that one day, Hampleton picked her up from Baptist Hill Middle-High School and drove her to an unknown location near a graveyard and had sex with her.
According to the affidavit, he then took the girl to lunch at China Fun II and then drove her back to school so she could ride the bus home.
The girl told police this happened one time and she was not sure of the exact date.
Hampleton is expected to appear in bond court Saturday morning.
