Report: Uncle claims he answered knife attack with a machete

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police responded to an Ottawa Avenue home Wednesday to find a fight over food had turned into a machete attack.

According to a police report, officers found 50-year-old Jeffery Sheppard with a badly cut left hand, a cut to his forehead, and a laceration to his left shoulder and forearm.

Sheppard told police his uncle, 56-year-old Keath Jordan, had attacked him with a machete.

The report says Sheppard was making lunch when his uncle came into the kitchen and asked for some food. Sheppard said Jordan started arguing with him for no apparent reason before getting a rusty machete from the back of the house and attacking him with it.

Police arrested Jordan who was still in the house and confiscated the machete. He told them Sheppard had stabbed him in the hand with a kitchen knife so he defended himself.

Police note Jordan had no wounds except for on his mouth.

Jordan is charged with attempted murder and was given a $225,000 bond.
