CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - State Republican Party Chairman Chad Connelly has no doubts Mark Sanford will win the state's vacant 1st District congressional seat. And he says retaining the state's first-in-the-South presidential primary is important to both the South Carolina and Republicans nationally.
Connelly made the comments during a recent interview with The Associated Press.
He says Sanford should win his old congressional seat in next month's special election against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert (KOHL'-buhrt) Busch in a district Republican Mitt Romney won by 18 points.
Connelly adds he will work to make sure the state retains its first-in-the-South GOP presidential primary in 2016. He says the politics of the state are important for national candidates to build election ground games.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
