Riverdogs shutout by Augusta 3-0 in home opener
CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston RiverDogs starting pitcher Rafael DePaula (0-1) lasted only two innings Thursday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in front of 6,670 fans as the RiverDogs (5-3) lost to the Augusta GreenJackets (5-3) by a score of 3-0. He allowed two runs on one hit while striking out five batters, issuing four walks, and hitting two batters.
Augusta jumped ahead in the top of the first inning on a one run single by Mitchell Delfino (2-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB) after DePaula walked the first two batters of the game on eight straight pitches. The GreenJackets added one more run in the frame after DePaula issued a bases loaded walk.
Phil Wetherell came on in relief in the 3rd inning and threw five strong innings. He allowed four hits, one run, issued zero walks, and struck out six batters before being relieved by Charlie Short.
Joan Gregorio (2-0) threw six innings of scoreless baseball for the GreenJackets. He gave up no runs on three hits and recorded eight strikeouts as he stifled the Charleston offense on way to his 2nd win of the season.
Augusta was able to tack on another run in the bottom of the 6th on a two out single by Travious Relaford extending their lead to 3-0 and cementing their victory.
