NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A train derailment early Saturday morning blocked Rivers Avenue near Meeting Street in North Charleston.
Several train cars rolled onto their sides, according to police.
North Charleston police say the derailment happened around 5 a.m. At this point, police say Rivers Avenue at Meeting Street is completely blocked.
There was no estimate on reopening the roadways.
North Charleston Fire Department officials said the train was empty. There were no injuries, officials said.
According to CSX officials, there were 64 cars and one engine. The cars were designed to carry scrap metal.
Officials are still trying to determine what caused the train to derail. A crew from CSX is reportedly on the way to the scene and are expected to arrive Saturday afternoon.
