SC ceremony to honor Korean War veterans
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Veterans of the Korean War are being honored at a ceremony featuring the presentation of service medals to more than 100 veterans of the conflict.
Honor Flight Carolina founder Bill Dukes says his organization is teaming up with the Department of Defense to honor South Carolina veterans of the conflict at a ceremony Monday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham is the featured speaker. A representative of the Republic of Korea is presenting Korean Service Medals to 100 veterans who saw action in the war zone from 1950 to 1953.
The event comes as part of the Pentagon's efforts to mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended hostilities on the Korean peninsula on July 27.
