COLUMBIA, S.c. (WCIV) -- Crews from six of the state's electric cooperatives are helping to restore power to residents in North Carolina and Virginia after large storms swept through the area on Thursday.
"Our crews are always prepared to help in these situations," said Todd Carter, vice-president of loss control and training at The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina. "We know we're fortunate our state was spared the worst of these storms, but our neighbors to the north weren't as lucky."
In all, 41 employees from South Carolina were dispatched.
On Friday afternoon, the Southside Electric Cooperative in Virginia had more than 8,000 members without power.
Crews were told their help may be needed through Tuesday or Wednesday.
