NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Three students earned a total of $7,500 in scholarships from the South Carolina Federal Credit Union.
Two of the students will stay in the state for their college educations.
West Ashley High School's Ariel Jackson earned a $4,000 scholarship and plans to attend the University if Chicago.
Justin Hearp, a College of Charleston student, earned a $2,500 scholarship and will continue his studies in accounting.
And Ashley Ridge High School's Caryn Ramelb earned a $1,000 scholarship and will attend the University of South Carolina.

"Seeing the applications year after year for these awards is a testament to the bright and talented youth that will soon be our leaders. More than 150 students applied for the scholarships by providing a letter of recommendation, a transcript, and a written essay on how they have demonstrated the credit union's philosophy of people helping people.
The top three students were selected via panels of both internal and external judges.
