SC fisherman dies despite chief's attempted rescue
RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) - A Ridgeland fisherman has died while fishing in a creek despite a rescue attempt by a local police chief.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/TZD59A ) that 60-year-old Jessie Wilson was fishing with his son on opposite sides of the creek Wednesday when they lost sight of each other.
Interim Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward was driving across a bridge when the teenage boy flagged him down. After three or four dives, the chief found the victim under the water amid tangled tree branches.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
