      SC projects get $450,000 in humanities grants

      CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a half million dollars for projects in Charleston and Columbia.

      The Gibbes Art Gallery in Charleston is getting $250,000 to improve storage for the museum's collections which focus on the American South.

      The second grant is for $200,000 for the University of South Carolina. The university will use the funds for a three-week institute for 30 school teachers. It will focus on the Reconstruction era in South Carolina, Georgia and on the sea islands in both states.
