CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina is receiving more than $1.1 million from the federal government to help handle wastewater from recreational boaters.
The grant awarded Wednesday by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is part of almost $17 going to 21 states under the federal Clean Vessel Act.
The money will allow the South Carolina Division of Marine Resources to renovate existing marina pumpout units and boats as well as to buy seven new pumpout boats to handle wastewater from recreational boaters.
About three-quarters of the money will be used along the South Carolina coast.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
