SC School bus driver dies before starting routes
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- A Beaufort County school bus driver has died shortly after arriving at the district office to start her morning routes.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that a school official said 45-year-old Tammy Grant said she did not feel well as she was getting on the bus around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Student services officer Gregory McCord says the special education bus driver asked for help to get off the bus.
Emergency services were called and took Grant to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m.
Autopsy results from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston were expected Tuesday.
McCord said Grant had been driving buses for the district more than 20 years.
