SC set to release state unemployment for May

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Officials are expected to say what South Carolina's unemployment rate was last month.

The state's Department of Employment and Workforce is scheduled to release May's jobless rate Friday.

In April, South Carolina's unemployment dropped to 5.3 percent. Officials said that was the state's lowest level in 13 years. Also in April, officials said the number of people working in South Carolina reached an all-time high with more than 2 million people employed.

The national unemployment rate during May was 6.3 percent.
