SC shooting suspect in custody after manhunt

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Two suspects are in custody following a manhunt that started after shots were fired at a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Sonny Collins says the gunfire and resulting chase happened just north of Conway on Saturday evening when a trooper tried to pull a vehicle over. The driver sped off and at least 1 of those in the vehicle started shooting at the trailing trooper.

The vehicle eventually stopped and two people got out, again firing at troopers.

Law officers returned gunshots and took 1 of the people into custody. The other person ran into the woods, leading to a three-hour search that ended with the second suspect's capture.
