SC students compete in state's Geographic Bee

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Some of South Carolina's brightest students are heading to Columbia to compete in the state's Geographic Bee.

Friday's competition at the South Carolina State Museum is sponsored by National Geographic and is open to fourth through eighth graders who qualified through their local schools and districts.

The 101 competitors will be quizzed about their knowledge of people, places and events that make up world geography. The winner gets to go to the national Geographic Bee in Washington in May.
