COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Attorney General Alan Wilson is stressing the importance of keeping children safe online.
This week, the top prosecutor is hailing the Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce, a group set up by his predecessor to hunt down and prosecute people accused of soliciting sex from children online.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the taskforce comprised of prosecutors and representatives from law enforcement agencies across the state. In the past decade, the taskforce has arrested more than 370 people suspected of soliciting sex from children online.
So far, more than 240 have been convicted.
Wilson says the Internet can be a dangerous place if children don't know the risks of communicated with strangers. But he says parents and educators need to be on alert for problems, too.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
