SC to release state jobless figures for September
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina officials are ready to release the state's unemployment rate, an announcement that's several weeks late because of the federal government shutdown.
The Department of Employment and Workforce is scheduled to release jobless figures for September on Friday afternoon.
The information was originally scheduled for release on Oct. 21. But the numbers were delayed due to the 16-day federal government shutdown, which included a temporary closure of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In August, South Carolina's unemployment rate remained unchanged from July at 8.1 percent. The state posted an 800-job gain in August as people went back to school. But hospitality jobs fell by 700 as the summer tourist season ended.
