DEW: SC unemployment dips to 8.6 percent

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's workforce agency has released the state's unemployment picture for February.

According to the state Department of Employment and Workforce, the state's new jobless figures are down for February.

The unemployment rate decreased to 8.6 percent from January's rate of 8.7 percent.

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell from 7.9 percent in January to 7.7 percent in February.

The number of employed increased to 1,991,575, the highest level since August 2008, and unemployed persons fell to 187,673. Since February 2012, employment has increased 26,510.

Large gains were reported in government jobs, hospitality, education and health services and business services.

Lesser gains were reported in construction, financial services, information and manufacturing.

Losses were reported in the trade field, transportation and utilities.
