CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Just in time for the summer travel season, South Carolina has given its state tourism website a half-million dollar overhaul.
Officials with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism say the new site is more interactive by suggesting activities based on visitors' responses and allowing visitors to build their own vacation itinerary from drop-down menus. It can be translated into 80 languages.
The site is one of the main ways that the department draws travelers to South Carolina, where tourism is an $18 billion a year industry.
Department spokesman Marion Edmonds says South Carolina had one of the first tourism websites in the nation back in the 1990s. He says the overhaul is the most comprehensive since the department first went online.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
