COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - With uninsured South Carolinians facing a midnight deadline for signing up for health care coverage, enrollment counselors are reporting a surge of people seeking their help.
But people can't access their options because of more technical glitches with the federal website. Navigators at the Richland County Public Library and Cooperative Ministry say first-time users of the online marketplace had to leave a message Monday after calling the federal government's toll-free number. Like the website, the hotline was overwhelmed. A voice recording says messages will returned after April 1.
People trying to apply qualify for extensions to Monday's deadline.
Insurance companies and navigators say they've seen a lot more activity in the last week. More than 350 people attended an education and enrollment event Saturday at the Richland County Library.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
